Undergraduate Student Government Downtown External Affairs Committee Feedback Report — February 6, 2017 UNIVERSITY BOARDS AND COMMITTEES Senators on the External Affairs Committee (EAC) were asked to contact downtown UBC representatives for feedback on their experience serving at a University-wide level. The EAC recognizes UBCs as a critical part of ASASU and necessary for student feedback and concerns. Senators were assigned representatives on December 4, 2016. They were instructed to ask how the committee meetings were going, what USGD could do to support, and to find out any concerns of the representative. 12 individual students represent Downtown as UBC representatives. Some students serve on more than one committee. 10 student representatives responded to inquires from USGD Senators. Except for one response, all feedback pointed toward negative experiences with UBCs and the following concerns persisted: ➔ No contact from any ASASU member since orientation in August ➔ Meeting reminders are sent late, sometimes day-of, to remind about meetings ➔ Several meetings were canceled In one instance, a student applied to be a UBC member but has not been contacted or followed up with on the status of the application. In another instance, the check-in from a USGD Senator was the only contact the student representative had with any ASASU member. In another instance, a student representative reported emailing several times with questions and never getting a response. Based on this feedback, from a Downtown perspective, UBCs are nonfunctional and have been for some time. The Undergraduate Student Government Downtown External Affairs Committee recommends expedient action and a transfer of UBC responsibilities to a more effective, efficient system and/or leader.
