Austin Chambers Scharf, Wiil 'markbobak@mac.com' Subject: REVISED DRAFT Soccer Stadium Post DRAFT: Change bolded When the owners of a potential soccer team came and asked for money from our taxpayers to build a new stadium in St. Louis, I called it welfare for millionaires. They asked for $40 million. We offered them zero. They took the deal. We made it clear that we welcome private sector investment and are eager to work with the business community to bring jobs to Missouri, without special interest tax credits. We drew a clear line, and it worked. Today, I?m happy to tell you that we?re currently working on a deal with private sector investors that protects your tax dollars and encourages development in our city. We?re glad that these business leaders are also interested in more jobs with higher pay, and we?re grateful for their efforts and investment. There?s a lot more work to be done, but in the interest of transparency, I wanted to let you know the solution that we are working towards. abouttblank 2/17/2017 Print . Page 2 of2 The proposed soccer stadium would go on land that is currently owned by the government. That land that is vacant, useless, and trashed. Instead of a government handout, the owners of the new team would actually be paying you, the taxpayers, to use that space. Like any good landlord, we?d clean it up before they arrive, but not a penny of state money will go into their pockets. This is what can happen when you stick to your values, stand up to special interests, and create the conditions for private sector investment. I told you that I would always fight for you, and that?s exactly what we?re doing. The people of Missouri don't have to choose between special interest favors and private sector investment any more. With the right leadership, we can growjobs and protect your tax dollars. I?m proud to say that we?ve already started getting results for you. about2b1ank 2/17/2017 Print Page 1 of 2 Message: RE: REVISED DRAFT Soccer Stadium Post Case Information: Message Type: Exchange Message Direction: External, Inbound Case: Capture Date: 2/15/2017 9:58:52 AM Item ID: 24634671 Policy Action: Not Specified RE: REVISED DRAFT Soccer Stadium Post From Briden, Parker Date Thursday, January 26, 2017 4:37 PM To Scharf, Will; Roche, Mike; 'Austin Chambers'; 'Jimmy Soni' Cc At least, passing from the committee.
