USAID/Angola’s Funding to ADPP ADPP has been implementing activities in Angola with USAID funding since 2010. Their activities include basic education and water and sanitation activities. Below is the description of their two projects in Angola. 1. Basic Education with links to Employment and Vulnerable Children Total Estimated Amount: $1,859,977 Period of Performance: October 2010 – June 2014 Geographic Scope: Four provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Huambo and Cabinda The activity’s objective was to improve the access of Angolan children and young people to a high basic education and increase literacy among adults and out-of-school youth. The activity also included the establishment of a pilot curriculum for academic and technical education for the 7th and 9th gradeS in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. Under this agreement, the Ministry of Education commits to co-financing an up-scaling of basic academic and technical education in 36 ADPP’s schools throughout the country’s 18 provinces, using part of the funding coming from provincial education budgets. Remaining activity results are as follows: 2. School-Based Model for Improved Community Water and Sanitation Total Estimated Amount: $2,499,800 Performance Period: October 2012 – March 2017 Geographic Scope: Benguela Province The objective of the activity is to contribute to reducing waterborne diseases and infections that are exacerbated by poor sanitation. Specific objectives are: a) Increase access to improved water and sanitation facilities in the target area by improving and constructing latrines and hand washing facilities in 100 primary schools. b) Increase access to clean water by rehabilitating existing facilities and organizing the Parents Teacher’s Association to find alternative solutions. c) Mobilize 50 families around each school to construct latrines and hand‐washing facilities in their homes. d) Increase the use of improved sanitation facilities through education and by raising awareness. Central to the success of the activity is the inclusion of the Government of the Republic of Angola from the onset given that it has an ambitious Water for All Program to increase the access of water and sanitation facilities to 80% of the country’s rural population by 2017.
