Dear Dr. Lewis,
Based upon a conversation I had with your staff on March 8th, 2017, it is my understanding that the Orleans Parish School
Board (OPSB) chose to extend the deadline for charter applications to Monday, March 6, 2017. This extension is beyond the
February 24th, 2017 common application deadline approved by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).
If a local school board authorizer wishes to make any modifications to its charter application timeline, those modifications
must be submitted to the Louisiana Department of Education (LDE) for approval.
In future years, should you desire to use a timeline that is different than the common timeline approved by BESE, I ask that
you request a waiver from LDE for approval prior to the start of the application process.
