MUMPS UPDATE as of Wednesday, March 15, 2017 The mumps outbreak is slowing significantly and is now focused in fewer counties around the state. As of March 15, 2017, Benton, Carroll, Greene, Madison, Sevier, and Washington are the counties involved. Counties with Mumps Cases as of March 15, 2017 There are currently 49 active cases impacting 8 workplaces, 18 schools in 9 school districts, 1 college/vocational school, and 1 private school. As of today, there are a total of 2,898 mumps cases, which include individuals who have displayed symptoms related to mumps with history of close contact with a confirmed case or have received lab confirmation that they are positive for the virus. The longest typical time from exposure to the start of symptoms (incubation period) is 26 days. Counties that have not had cases in the last 26 days are no longer considered part of the outbreak. The majority of cases are among school aged children; therefore, ADH has targeted its outbreak response to minimizing transmission within the impacted schools. ADH is requiring students who have a Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine exemption to be excluded from school for 26 days from the date of exposure or for the duration of the outbreak, whichever is longer.
