No. 94-235 Rehabilitation of Gold Star NB THAMES RIVER I-95 SB Bridge N Gold Star Br. No. 03819 I-95 NB NEW LONDON GROTON Amtrak Railroad - 'THAMES RIVER 13/11? 8.111?? 5 3 1-95 NB Gol ar rial Bridge The Gold Star Bridge (No. 03319} was constructed in the 19405 and carries northbound traffic over the Thames River between New London and Groton. The bridge consists of 31 main line spans and 3 adjacent ramp spans, and has a total length of approztimatelt.r 5,925 feet and a deck area of square feet. The minimum roadwav width of 30 feet provides five 12-foot traffic lanes and two Ill?foot shoulders. A major IQTDs superstructure rehabilitation replaced the bridge deck including floor beams in spans 6-25 and 29-32. The entire superstructure was replaced in truss spans 25-25 over the river and girder spans 33-36 and 343-353 at the east approach. Several 19?3?s rehabilitation projects included blast cleaning and painting, installation of a redundant load path retrofit svstem for the deck truss pin and hanger svstem, safetv improvements, deck joint and header replacements and bituminous concrete overlav. Emergencv Declaration Project 94-254 in EDltl replaced the expansion rocker bearing in the approach truss spans at Piers 23 E: 30. Pavement Preservation Project 94?255 in 2015 repaved the wearing surface with deck joint repairsfreplacement.
