Wg?lhamg West Virginia I .lState Medical . . Association OSlthIl West Virginia Legislature. 2017 Session Issue: Parental Notification Bill: HBZOO2, Procedures Performed on Minors WVSMA Position: Given the diverse moral, ethical and religious background of our members, the West Virginia State Medical Association does not oppose or endorse the issue of abortion. That being said, we are a' physician advocacy organization that protects our physi- cians and their patients in the interest of providing the highest quality of care. We oppose HBZOOZ because we oppose any additional regulations on physicians that could disrupt the care of a patient and interrupt the physician/patient relationship. Also, we oppose the criminalization of physicians through threat of fines, penalties or incarceration as they are performing to the standard of care. We also oppose the addition of regulations imposed on physicians in an already highly regulated system of health care delivery in our state.
