Box l5 Greendale Station Worcester, Massachusetts 01606 Attention: Subject Shark Screen Gentlemen: Tests have been completed using the prototype shark screen re- ceived from you. The following information and recommendation are results of the test: 1. The tests were conducted using the USAF LPU life preserver. By using the life preserver, the dimensions can be reduced considerably (see attached sketch). 2. Construction can be simplified by making a curved seam at the bottom rather than fitting a circular piece of material to make the bottom. The circular bottom deploys some- what better than a semicircular seal but it's more complicated to build and will not package as well. 3. The enclosed sketch shows what a ?Shark Screen" would look like with minimum dimensions for the life preserver with the following additional comments: Approved For Release 2003/02/27 CIA-RDP75B00285R000100220001-6 Approved For Rele?s'e 2003/02/27 Page Two a. In order to reduce package size, recommend that only one inflatable ring be used, the lowest one. Instead of the upper two (2) rings, a single thickness of the same material used on the bottom part should be used with twelve (12) grommet holes and a draw string. With the reduction in dimensions indicated on the sketch, the volume of materials needed should be reduced by one-third. b. The material used for the entire bottom part of the bag should be the aluminized mylar with black polyester over the aluminized side, black side out, shining side in. c. The inflatable ring should be made of mylar coated with black polyester only. No aluminizing on the material. The inflatable ring should be partially sealed or tacked together periodically around the circumference in order that the ring will hold a circular shape when inflated. i d. Use screw-type closing valve for inflatable ng. e. Make semicircular seal at the bottom of the bag rather than fitting a circular bottom to the bag. f. The dimensions indicated on the sketch will reduce the amount of material in the "Shark Screen? to two-thirds of what it was in the prototype. 9. Vacuum packing should be used to reduce final package size to the minimum. would appreciate you looking over the new sketch and than giving us a price quote for sixty (60) each "Shark Screens".
