This year CNE will enter its 33rd year of operation. Through all these years its work has focused on promoting leadership, responsibility, and self?sufficiency in tow income communities and individuai iives alike. its success has been due in large measure in that it acts upon the belief that mediating structures and organization closest to people families, churches, associations and community~based organizations are more effective than government providing a heiping hand to individuals and families facing diffiCUlt circumstances. CNE has several specific program competencies. Namely, CNE's experience enables it to identify grassroots organizations capable of engaging on community problems; providing training and technical assistance to improve administrative performance in an organization; and linking up public and private policymakers with neighborhood and community ieaders. CNE's specific program areas for 2013 include the toliowing: Vioience Free Zone in Milwaukee and Richmond, Virginia; and technical assistance to inner city Baptist Churches in Indianapolis and community groups in San Antonio, Denver, and Washington, DC. A grant of $300,000 is requested. BUDGET 2013 budget is $2,530,616. Other major founders include Chevron, U.S. Department of Justice and the Dogs Jones and David and Juiia Uihlein Foundations. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Since its earliest grant making days Bradley has supported Bob Woodson and his work through-ONE. The organization?s message ofindividual responsibility, faith, family, citizen participation has been and remains a proper fit with the animating principies of Bradley?s grant making activities. Of speciai note is Woodson and NCE's engagement with Milwaukee Public Schools. His ?Violence Free Zone" has received significant support from the school administration, local public and private decision makers and iocai grassroots groups. A grant of $250,000 is recommended. t?
