Shii?rm and $100,000 $100000 To support Wisconsin?s Future of the Famiiy Commission Alicia Manning 2/23/2016 20151050 The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF) seeks an award of $100,000 to support Wisconsin?s Future of the Family Commission. Governor Scott Walker has appointed Secretary Eloise Anderson of DCF as the chairman of a commission charged with reviewing current information on the state of families in Wisconsin and making recommendations for proposed actions to improve family success. Specifically, the Commission will spend the next several months examining: the status of Wisconsin families today, including trends in household and family structure and the impact of public policy on these trends; research on how family structure affects tamiiy social and economic success; and programs that are working for families now. Based on this review, Commission members will recommend areas in which public policy and civil society can better support and strengthen families to achieve social and economic success. Accordingly, the Commission will consider both public policy recommendations and proposed voluntary sector actions it will address the needs of families in all regions of the state. in addition to Anderson, the Commission's members are: Dr. Sarah Campbell, a pediatrician from Appleton; Delvyn Crawford, 3 Milwaukee?based fatherhood programming expert; Rachel Campos-Duffy, a television personality, political pundit, and wife of Congressman Sean Duffy; Mikel Holt, founder and publisher of the Milwaukee Community Journal; Jim Kacrnarcik, president of Grafton?based Kapcc, lnc.; Archbishop Jerome Listecki; Jeff Pralle, a realtor, property owner, and veteran of the US. Navy from Onalaska; Emetia Riddle-Williams, a case manager at the Salvation Army in Beloit; and Alicia Manning. Secretary Anderson also chairs the Foundationusupported Secretaries? Innovation Group, a membership organization of human services and workforce secretaries interested in advancing policies that favor healthy families, work, economic seif?rellance, budget responsibility and limited government. The Commission?s total budget is $100,910, which includes a facilitators fees, honoraria for expert Speakers, travel, and administrative expenses. Staff of the Department are considering different nonprofit organizations that could request the funds on its behalf. This question should be resolved in advance of the February 23 meeting of the Bradley Board. RECOMMENDATION: Shortly after her appointment by Governor Walker in January 2011, Secretary Anderson visited the Foundation to discuss her priorities for the Department. What she described at the time was aligned with this Commission?s mandate. At the Commission?s first meeting, she spoke in particular about the seriousness of the challenges being faced by families in rural parts of the state as well as the urgent need to re-engage African-American fathers. Staff recommends an award of $100,000.
