Dear Nate,

This letter is to con?rm our prior correspondence regarding future response of the Augusta Fire
Department to calls for service in Hallowell. As it now stands, beginning on July the City of
Augusta Fire Department (AF D) will no longer provide automatic mutual aid to your
community. As we do with other neighboring communities, AFD will respond to requests for
standard mutual aid in circumstances where your department as the ?rst responder has
assessed the situation and called for assistance from us as well as any other area departments
with whom you may have existing mutual aid agreements.

I know that you grasp the signi?cance of this but I believe that it is important that your Mayor
and Council and residents appreciate it in advance of the date of implementation so that there are
no unfortunate misunderstandings once the new policy is in effect.
