Dear Ms. Donkin,
We have reviewed and processed your request for information under the Right to
Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RTIPPA), dated April 18th, 2017. Your
request has been approved in part.


In your request, you asked that we provide, for the time period of 2016 to
2017 (to date):
o Number of calls for drug overdoses in New Brunswick, broken down by
region/city/municipality and substance.

Ambulance New Brunswick (ANB) does not report on substance type, therefore
this information cannot be provided.
In the table below, you will find the number of calls received by ANB for
suspected overdose. This data was compiled from ANB patient care records on
which paramedics documented the administration of Naloxone (Narcan). The
numbers are divided by destination facility, which provides you with the region in
which the call originated. The final category “UNKNOWN” is indicative that there
was no transport, or that the transport facility was not recognized. Due to the

  

delay between receipt of calls and compilation of data, the information provided
spans from January 1st, 2016 to March 31st, 2017.
In accordance with Section 67(1)(a)(i) of RTIPPA, if you are not satisfied with the
information provided, you may file a complaint with the Access to Information and
Privacy Commissioner within 60 days of receiving this response, or refer the
matter to a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench as per section 65(1)(a) within
30 days of receiving this response.
