Case Document 45-6 Filed 05/05/17 Page 1 of 2 THOMAS P. KOCH 249 NEWBURY AVENUE QUINCY MA 02171 April 20, 2017 The Honorable Rya Zobel United States District Court District of Massachusetts One Courthouse Way Boston MA 02210 RE: Daniel J. Dear Judge Zobel: I write to you at the request ofDan lynn?s sisters whom I. have known, along with Dan, since I was a young child. The family and the Koch family grew?up in the same North Quincy neighborhood. We played together at the neighborhood park, Cavanagh Field, attended church at Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy, and came to know each other the way families did back in the days when your neighborhood was the essential fabric of your life. I have known Dan and his sisters since childhood, and that makes the circumstances which prompt this letter all the more difficult. In writing, I will first make clear that I understand Dan has admitted committing acts of fraud that have impacted the lives of a number of people who placed their trust in him. The fact he has taken responsibility for his actions does not diminish the harm caused - both to the victims of his acts, and his family. I am very mindful of these facts, and these victims, as I write this letter. The Dan .l grew up with was a gregarious, outgoing, and kind person who served as an altar boy with me at Sacred Heart Church, coached youth baseball with me at Cavanagh Field, and was highly popular and well-regard ed. Although we attended different high schools, our activities after school and in the neighborhood frequently brought us together. My parents instilled in me and my siblings the importance of community and church and made certain we were actively involved in both. It was during those times that 1 came to know Dan, who was equally involved for the same reasons. He is from a very solid, grounded family and I know that kindness and work ethic back then that I observed later in life when Dan was always the go?to guy for events across the South Shore serving as an auctioneer for innumerable charitable causes. EXHIBIT is Case Document 45-6 Filed 05/05/17 Page 2 of 2 Dan has family and friends, including me, who are willing to do what we can to help him move forward with his life and address the harms and the pain his actions have caused. As the next chapter is about to begin, I ask the court to consider the world Dan came from, and the fact that he now understands it is best he return to that world as quickly as he is able. I truly believe that Dan is capable of redemption, and ask that this honorable court impose a sentence that allows for that process to begin as quickly as possible. Very truly yours, Thomas P. Koch
