HPAI Biosecurity Biosecure Entry Procedure Information for Poultry and Egg Producers Personnel should use a Biosecure Entry Procedure to cross the Line of Separation (LOS) which is established to isolate poultry from possible sources of infection with avian influenza virus. The LOS consists of the building walls separating the birds from the outside plus a marked line in the entry room to the poultry house/barn. The following components are essential for a Biosecure Entry Procedure.  Entry Area  Establish a single, clearly marked entry area to the building that excludes birds  Visitors permitted entry to the bird housing areas should fill out a visitor logbook  Should include a clearly marked line within the entry; this line is part of the LOS which personnel cross from the outside to the bird side of LOS  Personnel & Equipment Source: CFSPH, ISU  Before crossing the LOS  Remove street shoes/boots  Remove outer clothing (e.g., a coat) to allow changing into site-specific coveralls  Leave personal items, such as cell phones and jewelry, outside the LOS  All equipment that crosses the LOS must be cleaned and disinfected Source: Pam Zaabel, CFSPH, ISU  After crossing the LOS, before contacting birds  Clean hands using hand sanitizer or soap  Put on site-specific coveralls and boots, taking care not to contaminate this apparel in the process  Follow the same procedure, in reverse, when crossing back to the outside of the LOS Source: Pam Zaabel, CFSPH, ISU The Danish Entry System is an example of a Biosecure Entry Procedure that has been used successfully.
