Dear Suresh Mukherji,

I am happy to announce that Erik Shapiro has been nominated by his department for the
2016 Outstanding Supervisor Award. As his direct supervisor, we wanted you to be
aware of this nomination.

The Outstanding Supervisor Award was established in 2001 to draw attention to 
supervisors who are highly regarded by their employees. Various academic and support
staff units submitted nominations. The nominees and nominators represent a wide variety
of departments and position levels. 

The nomination represents Erik Shapiro?s positive managerial style and is signi?cant
because of the way he supports the people in his department as a team. The nomination
letters were moving and powerful. We should feel very proud to have so many excellent
supervisors ?coaching? MSU employees.

The characteristics of the nominees included an understanding of work/life balance and
sensitivity to individual needs, such as allowing ?exible schedules. He promotes
teamwork and treats everyone with dignity and respect. The nominees understand family
is a priority and because they support their employees? personal and professional needs
they enhance the quality of the department. It is clear that these supervisors respect
individuals, thus in turn the employees report they have higher morale, productivity and
loyalty to MSU. The nominatorsindicated, ?He understands the need for work life
balance and ?exibility.?

Although Erik Shapiro was not selected as a recipient of the award, the committee feels
very. strongly that he be acknowledged for the nomination and his leadership. we. will
send the nominating department a Certi?cate of Nomination, and a letter encouraging his
staff to plan a special ceremony to honor him. We hope that you too will be able to
recognize him for his outstanding leadership and sensitivity to work/life issues. Thank
