January 2, 2017 Chris Daw Chair, ICCRC-CRCIC Via Email- cdaw@iccrc-crcic.ca Dear Chris, It is with some regret that I offer my resignation as the elected Public Interest Director from the Board of ICCRC. This past year on the Board has been challenging as the organization went from one crisis to another. While I strongly support the mission of the regulatory Council, its practice of governance, its relationship with members and the backroom dealings that appear to be status quo are in opposition to my values of equity and transparency. I know that my colleagues that I have served with as new directors for the past year have much to offer and bring a wealth of experience and integrity to the work of the ICCRC. However, the decision of the members to vote out all incumbent directors standing for re-election was less an exercise in democracy than an expression of cynicism and one-up-man-ship. My priority remains an immigration and refugee determination system in Canada that is accessible, affordable and timely. My energies can be best spent elsewhere as I continue to advocate for these goals. I wish you and the Board all the best in the difficult tasks you have ahead of you in building a regulatory Council that is effective and lead to best practices. Sincerely, Debbie Douglas c.c. lel-ghandouri@iccrc-crcic.ca
