NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE Arizona State Conference September 8, 2016 Mr. Greg Patterson, Chair Arizona Board of Regents 2020 N. Central Avenue Suite 230 Phoenix, AZ 85004-4593 Dear Regent Patterson: The NAACP wishes to notify you of our receipt of the attached communication from Dr. Nicholas Alozie, a professor at Arizona State University (ASU). The NAACP is concerned with Dr. Alozie?s charges of systematic exclusion of African Americans in higher level academic administrative positions at ASU. Moreover, Dr. Alozie?s complaint that he has been the victim of retaliation for his actions by the administration is of additional concern to the NAACP. The accusations of institutional racism and retaliation against an African American scholar and administrator at the university are signi?cant and of interest to Arizona?s African American Community. The NAACP is appealing to the ABOR to investigate these issues and to take appropriate action to resolve them. Dr. Alozie has noti?ed us that he has initiated legal action on these matters, an action that places this matter into the public domain. However, we believe that such action should not preclude important community dialog on his charges, nor potential action wherever necessary to resolve these issues in the university as a matter of great importance to the community. Please let the NAACP know how we can help ABOR in resolving this matter. Sincerely, @2435? Charles R. Fanniel, President Copied to: The Honorable Douglas Ducey, Governor, State of Arizona; The Honorable Mark Brnovich, Attorney General of Arizona; The Honorable Sinema, U.S. Congresswoman, 9th District PO.
