May 23, 2017 Dear Raytown Middle Parents and Guardians The safety of our students is a top priority both inside and outside of the classroom. Fourteen students on Bus 52 witnessed a police crime scene while in route to school this morning. All students were safe, and the bus driver immediately alerted school and district administration. We have contacted all parents of students riding that bus to inform them about the incident. Additionally, students were offered support from counselors and were monitored for signs of distress throughout the day. We will continue to offer support to students who are experiencing symptoms of trauma. Teachers have been asked to be extra vigilant, identify students who may be having difficulty coping with the event, and encourage those students to talk with adults about their feelings. In your homes, please be watchful for signs of anxiety, nervousness or fear that your child may be exhibiting related to this incident. You can also partner with us to minimize rumors that could disrupt our positive environment. We want to work together through this experience to provide support for students as needed. If you have questions, please contact me at school. Sincerely, Dr. Georgetta May, Principal
