Auckland’s premier waterfront playground is set to light up A visual lighting feast for the city, Bright Nights marks a new era for Viaduct Harbour Viaduct Harbour Holdings Ltd has teamed up with Angus Muir Design and Philips to create an artistic lighting installation at Viaduct Harbour, the first of its kind in New Zealand. The lighting will be a permanent fixture along three lengths of the Viaduct Harbour seawall, projecting artistic light sequences into the harbour. The public will be encouraged to visit Viaduct Harbour over Queen’s Birthday weekend to experience Bright Nights. From 6pm on the three evenings of Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th June there will entertainment by futuristic Vospertron dancers, special food and beverage offerings, and temporary light decorations bringing the celebration to life. The inaugural event sets out to pave the way for an annual lighting festival on par with Vivid Sydney; the installation at ASB Waterfront Theatre by acclaimed New York artist Leo Villareal, adding to the ‘light festival’ experience. Viaduct Harbour has engaged Angus Muir in a long-term partnership to create new ‘light shows’ throughout the year, reflecting moods and events in the city. “The new lighting project will transform the Eastern Viaduct marina via dynamic, coloured lighting using the latest technology Philips CK Luminaires Color Kinetics LED lighting system from Philips. The lights will be remotely controlled to produce displays to suit the seasons and occasions, creating an exciting sense of energy” says Designer, Angus Muir. Bright Nights signals a new era for Viaduct Harbour, as initial plans for a five-star hotel on the former Simunivoch site at One Market Square have been announced, and as four new hospitality offerings are poised to open in the Viaduct by late June 2017, including: - An all-new rooftop cocktail bar by the Mea Culpa operators - A new restaurant by Simon Gault in the former Mecca site - The transformation of the former Snapdragon site as it’s re-branded by new operators - A pop-up eatery called Headquarters in the former Simunovich site, opening this week Arguably Auckland’s most famous waterfront precinct — home to ‘Volvo Round the World Race’ stop over and former Louis Vuitton and America’s Cup regattas, Bright Nights will be a captivating event for all Aucklanders and visitors to Auckland. “Bright Nights will enhance Viaduct Harbour’s iconic status as one of Auckland’s most desirable locations, where the waterfront meets the best of hospitality and light art,” states Chief Executive Angela Bull. -ENDSNotes to Editors Set to be unveiled for the first time on the evening of Wednesday 31st May 2017, drone footage on the night will capture the light display from the air, for distribution to national and international media.
