OFFICE OF THE BISHOP BUREAU DE no. BOX 907 M11). 907 CHARLOTFETOWN, CANADA 7L9 . . ?0 Board of Directors. Catholic Family Services 129 Pownal Street, PO Box 698 Charlottetown, PE 7L3 May 5, 2017 Dear Members of the Board, regret being unable to malty: my comments in person at your Annual General Meeting. i was committed at an earlier date to the Celebration of Con?rmation. have asked Sister Rosemary MacDonald to read this letter at your AGM on May 15. 2017. In recent years the Church has had to accept that many of its Catholic Institutions are no longer staffed or managed by Roman Catholics. it has become common practice. therefore to maintain the Catholic identity and principles of its institutions to implement certain policies and practices to help insure the Catholic vision and values of its institutions. At the last Board of Directors Meeting I presented a rather standard ?ve step plan to help insure the Catholic Identity First: Develop a policy providing an annual or semi?annual in?service program for staff, management and board directors. Second: Specify within that policy the required number of hours per annum for these in-service sessions. (I would recommend no less than eight (8) hours. This could be provided as a single event or two sessions of four hours.) Third; Develop a Memorandum of Understanding with the Catholic Diocese Charlottetown securing its assistance in finding and approving the human resources to present the Catholic hurch?s teaching on such issues as sexuality. marriage. health care and life issues. Fourth: A clear statement of intention to serve all people regardless of religious denomination, sexual orientation, race or origin should be included in this policy statement. There has been much misunderstanding of the word, non-denominational. Catholic Family Services is denominational and serves all other denominations from a Catholic understanding of life. love and justice. Fifth: Develop a policy requesting staff and management ofCatholic Family Services sign an agreement to comply with the Catholic vision and values as stated in the Catholic Health Care Ethics Guide and the Catechism ol?the Catholic Church.
