June 13, 2017 Elite Services understands the importance of ensuring the proper care and handling of animals. Proper handling techniques help maintain production quality and effectively reduce stress on the animals. We are sickened with the footage and want to ensure all our suppliers and producers that this is not reflective of who we are, our fundamental beliefs or behavior we accept from our employees. We do not condone or tolerate animal abuse. We understand the severity of this situation and are committed to taking immediate corrective action. We are in the process of taking the following actions as a result. 1. We consider the Supervisor of the crew an ambassador of the culture and values of our Company. We believe that it is clear that the Supervisor did not express or fulfill his responsibilities and therefore the care and welfare of animals suffered. We have terminated the employment of the Supervisor effective immediately. 2. As a result of the video footage, 5 employees are no longer in employment with Elite Farm services for not adhering to our strict animal care guidelines. 3. We are in the process of establishing an advisory committee to review and assist in enhancing our animal care practices and industry standards. The advisory committee will consist of a producer, an industry representative and a company representative who will work together to ensure all standards of animal care are adhered to. The role of the Advisory Committee will focus on the following areas: • Review of all animal care guidelines and policies • Creating clear policies and procedures that are in line with industry standards and practices • Establishing clear roles and responsibilities for our employees • Establishing a regular audit process to ensure compliance • Regular engagement with the poultry value chain to ensure proper feedback and issues management 4. We will be conducting an internal audit to review all practices, processes, guidelines and training with a goal of ensuring that we are in full compliance of animal care practice protocols and mandates such as those regulated by the Poultry Code of Practice and the CFIA. 5. We are committed to fully cooperate with any government or enforcement agency so that corrective measures are taken. Elite Services is committed to becoming an industry leader in animal welfare and safety to prevent this kind of a tragedy from ever happening again. Dwayne Dueck, President Elite Services
