This note seeks the Ministers agreement to funding for Forget-Me- Not Care and Counselling, and provides a brief update on other organisations. Forget?Me-Note Care and Counselling We received a bid for further funding from Forget-Me-Not Care and Counselling last week. This is following the ?10,000 of funding we provided the organisation last financial year as start?up funds. I 1 attach the bid. The organisation is seeking just under ?60,000 in total this financial year. This funding will be used to support counselling in Glasgow, Falkirk, Aberdeen and Lanarkshire (with premises hired in Glasgow, Falkirk and Aberdeen), and assumes individual assessments on 150 clients and more in depth sessions over 8 weeks for 50 individuals. The bid also covers funding for office rental, transport and charity registration. Although I would recommend that we continue to support the organisation this financial year, I am not entirely convinced by the level of funding that is being sought. (This amount of funding would also use up a significant proportion ofthe ?100k available to us this financial year.) In particular there is nothing explicit in the bid which details the number of parents they have already provided support to, but based on costs already incurred it appears around 20 parents have been assessed so far and five or six are being provided more detailed support. Expecting to assess a further 150 affected parents, and provide 50 with more detailed support, may be over-estimating the level of need. I would recommend that we agree to provide FMN with ?30,000 of funding initially this year, with a commitment to review that after six months to determine likely need for additional funding this financial year. Ifthe Minister is content with that I can notify FMN informally, and we can provide FMN with a formal grant letter thereafter. We will work with FMN to ensure that subsequent reports back to Government on the use of their funding provides greater detail on activities undertaken, number of clients supported, etc. I would like to respond to FMN this week if it all possible. Other organisations We have yet to receive a bid for funding from SANDS Lothian, but we know that SANDS has been very busy over the last week as a result of the Mortonhall report, so we have not pushed them to respond. Separately, following the First Ministers announcement last week, SANDS UK have been in touch to ask whether or not they are able to bid for funding. We have confirmed that we are happy to receive bids from any organisation. A bid is likely to besubmitted shortly, and we will provide advice when it does so. lam happy to discuss Gareth Brown Head of Blood, Organ Donation and Sexual Health Team Scottish Government - Tel: 0131 244 6910 Mob: 07825 753 440
