I didn't see any missed calls! Here is my confusion: The families, as shown in the documents I provided, told the school they needed this help right away. The school relayed that they "don't do this" i.e. don?t help with uniforms They school indicated that they had never heard of McKinney Vento The school now says "most ofthose funds? have been exhausted, meaning they are not completely exhausted The school tried to keep children out of school/class based on not having uniforms My concern is not only for these two children, but for all children who attend this school. I would like to understand the general policy better. Other than indicate that they need uniform help, what are children supposed to do? What happens when schools keep children out due to uniform violations? Does the school have to assist uniforms if so requested. Also, our staff used htier own money to buy a uniform for one ofthe boys and was told htat it was somehow not the accurate uniform shirt. Thanks in advance From: Torry Chatman Sent: Friday, September 04, 2015 3:38 PM To: Meghan Garvey Subject: Re: Sophie Wright Hi Meghan, I tried reaching you by phone this afternoon, but was unsuccessful. Consequently, I reached out to the school leader and made her aware of the situation. She stated that federal funds were used to purchase uniforms for students and most of those funds have been exhausted. However, she would like to speak to the student?s mother or you to determine how she can be helpful. Mrs. Clark can be reached at {504} 304-3915. Please reach back out to me if you have any additional questions or concerns. I just wanted to follow up on Sophie Wright. We had another uniform issue. While we appreciate the fact schools have uniform policies that they are free to enforce, we do expect that they will both be reasonable and comport with federal law, including McKinney-Vento. It was reported to us that another student, was suspended for not wearing a uniform sweater. She was wearing a plain black sweater instead. This is an absurd reason to suspend a child. Beyond that, it seems that the 2 mother indicaled to the school that she was notable to afford a sweater, Reportedly, the student was Suspended for or maybe lhree days. Please advtse as to what further information you need from us in order to prevent this problem tram recurring.
