Box 1922 Albuquerque, NM 87103 Dear Dr. Bailey and Mr. Barrett I write in response to Dr. Bailey's J'tly 5, 2017 letter and Mr. Barrett's July 6, 2017 letter by which you requested a meeting to discuss your concems regarding a multi-agency investigation led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) that resulted in the filing of federal drug trafficking and firearms charges against 104 Bemalillo County residents. Members of my staff and I will make ourselves available to meet with you and the two other individuals identified in Dr. Bailey's letter, Dr. Charles Becknell, Sr., and Mr. Eugene Pickett, on a mutually convenient date with the understanding that Department of Justice policy may limit our ability to discuss matters you may wish to address. For example, we will not be able to discuss pending cases, investigative techniques, and information that is not part ofthe public record. We appreciate the NAACP's continuing efforts to work cooperatively with law enforcement agencies for the good ofthe community and view that a meeting with us is an opportunity to open positive lines of communication and establish trust. Because this Office is committed to the fair and just enforcement of the law, we are receptive to hearing your concems even if we may not be able to respond to them at this time. I therefore encourage you to contact my secretary, Annamarie Maresca at (505) 224-144O or annamarie.maresca@usdoi. gov so that we can identify a mutually convenient time to meet.
