Why do you want to work at Collegiate Academies? (1-2 paragraphs recommended) Young minds continue to shape the essence of our culture. They influence all areas of our daily lives, music, fashion, technology, consumer spending, and national and global politics. They are the catalyst to how we will view and approach the future. The maturation of our culture will be dictated by how we prepare young people to accept the responsibilities of leadership roles to shape our communities. The preparation is in providing sound education choices. “Failure to prepare is preparing to fail”. Having limited quality education opportunities is a recipe for failure. The essence of Collegiate Academies is to better the lives of students and their families. The position of Director of Community Affairs & Advocacy with Collegiate Academies, will provide me the opportunity to align my personal commitment to educating youth with an organization that is purposeful and have the same commitment. 2. What is your greatest strength as a professional? What is your greatest weakness/area of growth? (2-3 paragraphs recommended) The strength of a leader is multi-layered and not singular. As a leader my multi-layered strength is identifying the circumstance of the challenge while evaluating the resources needed for a successful outcome. I am a strategic thinker that can manifest concepts and move ideas forward to successful execution and outcomes. The path to growth is the continued search for knowledge, gaining experience and expanding professional development. I have recognized that I must have growth in the area of patience. There is a sense of urgency in providing a quality education to our children now. However, the “now” takes time and I must develop patience in this area. 3. In 500 words or less, describe how you would meet the goals of this role. There are four points of my professional experience that will assist me in accomplishing the goals of developing and strengthening Collegiate Academies relationship with its stakeholders. 1. I have leveraged assets to develop programs that delivered services and resources to underserved families. 2. I understand relevant issues that affect families nationally and especially in Louisiana. 3. I have a significant network of national, regional and local elected officials and business leaders. 4. I am an exceptional public speaking and organizer. Because it will be important to communicate that I have taken the position of Director of Community Affairs & Advocacy with Collegiate Academies, notification to those that have supported my efforts will be imperative. I would recommend a news release and a mention in the local publications. I would develop benchmarks to define the measurements for meeting goals. Next, I would undertake the development of a strategic approach for family engagement that will include a series of town hall meetings with parents, faith-base leaders, alumni and elected officials. Another strategy is scheduling meetings with key constituents with the objective of building trust. Carver has a strong alumni base and they are very demanding. Prior to opening the new school, I would meet with their leadership to gain an understanding of challenges, concerns and opportunities to develop partnerships with these vital constituents. Another aspect of my plan is to develop an alumni day and incorporate current students in the festivities. Because I have an extensive network of leaders, I will schedule meetings and school tours to familiarize visitors with the schools and the work of Collegiate Academies. Another strategy is the development of an Advocacy Advisory Council, comprised of local stakeholders. This will ensure that families, community leaders and others are connected and have a sense of ownership in Collegiate Academies. Working in conjunction with the Development Team to support their efforts by providing contacts and attending meetings when appropriate.
