We'd like you all to be aware of an impending series of 4-5 investigative stories that Reuters is running. The claims Reuters will make are not new, but have been compiled into a "greatest hits" of anti-TASER stories dating back two decades Whether you've been a TASER user for 20 years or 20 minutes you know that we prioritize the safety of our customers and the people they serve above all else. Since the very beginning of our company's existence our goal has been to protect life, and in pursuit of that goal we have succeeded in reducing officer injuries and saving more than 185,000 lives from death or serious injury. We want to give you heads up that in the next coming days to 3 weeks Reuters will run a series of stories, researched during the past two years, that allege that officers are not being properly made aware of the risks inherent in the usage of our TASER Smart Weapons. Reuters has confirmed this will be a series of articles that will claim that our product warnings are ambiguous, that our technology is more dangerous than we admit, and that we are systemically working to shift liability off of our company and onto our partners in law enforcement. Our product warnings are forceful, and unambiguous, and have remained largely unchanged since 2009, while our officer training program remains one of the most robust in any industry. Far from saddling law enforcement with an undue liability, our recent trainings and product warnings have, in the past few years according to Reuter's own research, coincided with a 38% decrease in TASER CEW cases being prosecuted against police agencies. In addition to saving more than 185,000 lives, our TASER devices have shown to help reduce officer injuries by as much as 70%, suspect injuries by as much as 2/3rds, and workman's compensation payments by more than 90%. Our TASER devices are the most studied less-lethal weapon today and have been deployed in the field more than 3.4 million times as well as nearly 2.3 million uses in voluntary exposures. Given our ongoing commitment to providing our users with the most up-to-date information and training, and given the tremendous impact we have already had on the safety not just of our customers but of the communities they serve, we seek to repudiate Reuters' analysis in the strongest possible terms. We will assist law enforcement with three key resources as soon as the Reuters' stories hit. 1. Our dedicated Reuters' response web page will be the main focal point to respond to concerns and controversial topics to keep you abreast of our responses. We will push this page live: axon.com/reuters after the first story hits and continue to update as the other follow-on stories go to print. 2. We highly encourage law enforcement agencies to visit and provide TASER safety and risk management topics: axon.com/safety (currently live) with quick facts on safety and risk management as well a link that summarizes all of the safety reports. 3. We'll have occasional Tweets to address issues in social media at:https://twitter.com/axon us (@Axon_US) Lastly, if you have any questions about any of this please do not hesitate to reach out to Steve Tuttle, our VP of Strategic Communications (with 23 years of handling TASER media crisis) and who has been handling the media response to the Reuters stories. He can assist any agency with any concerns or questions regarding the claims in the upcoming stories. Finally, please make sure your command staff and PIOs/spokespeople/media relations staff know we can help, if you have any phone calls from the media that have technical questions. Do not hesitate to forward these to our media hotline or media email listed below. Thank You, Steve Tuttle Vice President, Strategic Communications O/ M/ Media Hotline / AXON.COM
