Therefore, according the BOE they have ten days to certify the petitions, ta king us to August 21, 2017. As you are keenly aware, over 20,000 Cleveland residents signed the Referendum ?petitions, so their voice could be heard at the ballot box. The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled on this matter, and it is clear that the citizens have a right to have their voices heard on Election Day. Therefore, we are appealing to you not only to move the date of the regularly scheduled meeting but to also place this matter officially before the entire Council for a vote; thereby, placing the Referendum? on the November 7, 2017 General Election ballot. By doing so, the Democratic process is respected, and the citizen?s right to vote is upheld. In addition, it will save the City of Cleveland over $700,000 for the cost-of a special election which would only anger the citizens even more than they are already over this matter. titty tiaii . far: 2M Martititted At this point, it is no longer whether you are ?for? or "against? the Quicken Loans referendum; it is about justice and basic voting rights. We, once again, appeal to you and your leadership team to do what is right for the citizens of Cleveland. The November General Election would be the most opportune time to address this issue and be fiscally responsible. We look forward to your swift action on this matter and the rescheduling of the September 18, 2017 regularly scheduled City Council meeting to on or before September 6, 2017.
