National Border Patrol Council August 3, 2017 The Honorable John Cornyn 517 Hart Senate Of?ce Building .8. Senate Washington DC 20510 Dear Senator Cornyn. I am writing on behalt'of the 16.500 members ofthe National Border Patrol Council in support ofyour bill entitled "The Building America's Trust Act" which would ?nally provide the long- term multi?layered approach to border security that this nation desperately needs. Your legislation provides the necessary support and tools that the hard?working men and women ofthe Border Patrol need to stop illicit trafficking, deter border crossings. and eliminate dangerous criminal cartels. The additional Border Patrol Agents this bill authorizes would provide an immediate increase in our operational control of the border by closing coverage gaps. In addition. the walls. fencing, and levees included in this bill maximize our Agents' effectiveness by allowing them to control multiple miles of territory. During the last six months. we have seen a drastic decrease in attempted border crossings due to the new Presidential Administration allowing law enforcement to enforce existing immigration laws. As such. we applaud this bill codifying the end ofPresident Obama's illegal "catch-and- release" program, which put dangerous criminal aliens back on our nation's streets. Finally. the additional ICE and CBP manpower and reaf?rmation ofthe nation's commitment to law and order will strengthen interior enforcement and further deter the ?ood ofillegal immigration. I appreciate your leadership in providing the right tools, laws. and funding to ?nally gain operational control ofour borders. 1 look forward to continuing to work with you on this issue.
