City Council candidate Malik Evans (Ballot lines: Democratic, Working Families) 1) What is your No. 1 priority, if elected? My first priority if elected would be to support strategies that promote job creation and attract economic investments particularly in our neighborhoods. We must work to increase the number of net jobs in within the city of Rochester limits. 2) What is the greatest strength and, conversely, the greatest weakness of the City Council? One of the greatest strengths of City Council is that it is made up of people who understand the community. The Council members collectively have hundreds of years of community service prior to being elected. One thing Council can do is work to inform citizens on Council's role in city government. 3) What have you learned about this community during the campaign, and how will that affect your service? Citizens want to be informed on major decisions and want to ensure that elected officials carry their voice to City Hall. Citizens also want us to understand that no neighborhood should be left behind or forgotten about. I have and will always keep this in mind during my service on City Council. On Page 2 are the responses to a questionnaire from August (prior to the Democratic primary). Please refer to ballot lines above for those applicable in the general election. City Council candidate Malik D. Evans (Ballot lines: Democratic, Working Families) 1) Do you support the RBTL/Morgan proposal for Parcel 5 - Yes/No and why? I have not seen the current proposal in detail (make good analysis, pro-forma, marketing plan), or any legislation that is pending before city council on the transfer of parcel 5 to anyone. Any transfer of public land or any future projects must at least break even and require no ongoing taxpayer subsidy and generate revenue for the city in the forms of taxes or economic activity. Any public land, that will be used for private development must also involve strong public participation in the process. 2) On what topic/issue do you most disagree with the current city administration, and why? On which are you most aligned, and why? I strongly agree with the advocacy for Pre?kindergarten expansion and growth. This is an issue I have spent over a decade championing. 3) Do you support or oppose the proposed redevelopment of Cobbs Hill Village, and why? I am a resident ofthe Cobbs Hill Neighborhood. The neighborhood association and many others are opposed to the current plan in its current form. It is vital that we listen to the residents concerns in this city.
