City Council candidate Willie J. Lightfoot (Ballot lines: Democratic) 1) What is your No. 1 priority, if elected? My number one priority is constituent services. Making sure that every voice feels they have been heard and respected. That I am accessible and approachable to all City residence. 2) What is the greatest strength and, conversely, the greatest weakness of the City Council? Coming from County government I would say the greatest strength of City council is that it's a likeminded governing body made up of all Democrats. So at the end of the day I believe our core values help us to agree to disagree. The greatest weakness is that we are only nine people we cannot solve every problem as much as we would like to think we can, it takes the whole community and even still we will have challenges that are very difficult to solve. 3) What have you learned about this community during the campaign, and how will that affect your service? I have learned campaigning this year that most people really are very aware of the issues. They just want to be heard, respected and not feel left out or ignored. We all want the same things at the end of the day, a better quality of life. That's why I made constituent-services my number one priority, because I don't want anyone to feel left out or forgotten - especially our seniors. On Page 2 are the responses to a questionnaire from August (prior to the Democratic primary). Please refer to ballot lines above for those applicable in the general election. City Council candidate Willie J. Lightfoot (Ballot lines: Democratic) 1) Do you support the RBTL/Morgan proposal for Parcel 5 Yes/No and why? It is my understanding that no official legislation is before Council at this time for Parcel 5. I would review once a specific proposal is presented. Then i can make an informed discussion. 2) On what topic/issue do you most disagree with the current city administration, and why? On which are you most aligned, and why? The issue that most disagree with is the City selling its current tax liens to a third party such as ATF or American Tax Funding. I believe that needs to be reevaluated and that the City should look at going back to collecting its own tax liens. The things that I am most aligned with are the Mayors Clergy on Patrol, Operation Transformation and ride sharing program. support these programs because they promote safer neighborhoods and work to help end poverty in our City. 3) Do you support or oppose the proposed redevelopment of Cobbs Hill Village, and why? I oppose the proposed redevelopment of Cobbs Hill Village because I support the renovation of existing facilities.
