City Council candidate Marcus Williams (Ballot lines: Democratic) 1) Do you support the Morgan proposal for Parcel 5 Yes/No and why? The RBTL/Morgan project is not the best use of the space nor does it make sense long?term. It looks pretty on paper. However, the cost is unusually high. Also, having 150 luxury units does not benefit the city as a whole. Not to mention, our downtown infrastructure is not presently adequate to support the success of a project such as this. 2) On what topic/issue do you most disagree with the current city administration, and why? On which are you most aligned, and why? The City has promoted the socioeconomic gentrification of our city in recent years. Much, to the harm and neglect of our citizens, sadly. Building luxury developments while the working class struggles to find affordable housing is not a right action for our people. Our housing rates are rising, andthe promised jobs have yet to be delivered. Renewable energy is the future of our city. Recently the City has started moving in this direction. i fully support this move, and I would encourage the acceleration of this. It will help us save money and promote newjobs as well as helping the environment. 3) Do you support or oppose the proposed redevelopment of Cobbs Hill Village, and why? After listening to people from the neighborhood, I find myself not in favor of this project. This project is yet another company taking advantage of the City and the elderly. The property is in a park it was supposed to revert to city ownership but did not. Developing a large?scale expansion and renovation inside a park is not a good representation of our town especially making many ofthe units "Market Rate." This does not combat the disparity in our city. They make it sound good, but it's not long-term for the community.
