Full Disclosure on how I resigned from the University Of Venda on 30 September 2008 where I worked from August 1987- 30 September 2008. On the 16 February 2008 an article appeared on the City Press of Protest by students to the effect that have authorized payment of a bursary meant for poor students to my daughter. Soon after the news the University management caused an investigation by Pricewater House Coopers. The findings of the investigation were that public relations being the department was in charge of requested for approval and the Finance department approved the granting of the bursary request list that included the name of my daughter; This then meant that the accusation of unethical behavior and conflict of interest did not hold. The University management did not disclose the report ?ndings to the public but instead decided to prefer charges against me. Not a single of the charges levelled against me referred to what caused the hullaballoo, The Director of Finance was also charged on other things and he appeared for the DC on the 5 June wherein he opted for a separation settlement which was granted. A date for my hearing was set for the 6 June 2008. Upon arrival with my legal representative we were taken aside by the University?s prosecutor who said to me ?we noticed that you are over 55 years old as such it will be advisable for you to go for a separation settlement instead of going through the DC process which you will loose internally and even if you appeal will still loose and only win two years down the line at the CCMA and by that time there will be nobody to notice the outcome?. My response was that the matter was not in my mind. I will have to be given time to think about it. The DC hearing was then postponed. was given the necessary documents including the Pricewater House Coopers report to help me make up my mind. After consulting my family and relevant others I decided to opt for separation settlement and inform the employer accordingly. When we went to the University for Feedback in August the employer without any feedback instructed that the hearing should continue there and then. We were not prepared as that was not the purpose for being at the University that day. The hearing was then postponed to the 3 October 2008. subsequently wrote a letter to the employer asking for clari?cations on the reasons for their change of heart and reconsideration on their latest stance, The employer?s response was negative. I then realised that I was being punished for the role i played when the University was selecting a candidate for the Vice-Chancellorship. was management representative in the Institutional forum and member of the University senate. In those capacities opposed the appointment of the very person who was now prosecuting me and had taken of?ce in the month of my ordeal, namely February 2008. 10 MW mrm_h?m . w? .wvw- . - --. "Dvga' .V w? 1w? ..- ?cam?Ja?on.? .- m. .. The grounds for my opposition were namely that out of 7 structures including the University senate none had shortlisted the candidate. A candidate who was shortlisted by all the 7 structures was overlooked. When senate was asked to confirm the appointment of the candidate I opposed that on the basis that it was unfair to ask senate to support the recommendation by a Council committee for the appointment by Council of a candidate that the senate had not shortlisted. On the 30 September 2008, after consulting relevant others I realised that I fell on my own sword. It was also clear that even if I were to gain victory it would not be possible for the two of us to work harmoniously so I decided to call it quit. The DC scheduled for the 3 October took note of my resignation and did not proceed, The bursary that my daughter was granted was never deducted from my benefits and I was not even criminally charged to date. If the clock was to be re-winded I would still do the same. 12. REFEREES :UUl'ly HIIU 11 gnu-
