During this period I represented the employees and interacted with management. Whiist at university between 1976 and 1979 was a member of the Students Representative Council and an activist in student and community politics. After obtaining the B.Proc degree in 1979, shortened by first name from Harikrishnan to Krish for professional reasons. The M.Litt. Degree through Aberdeen University was made possible by a scholarship from the Helen Suzman Foundation and the British Council at the initiative of the ANC. The Master?s programme compromised 3 modules Theory of Warfare, Defence Economics and International Security and a dissertation on Southern African Defence Co-operation. As part of the programme I spent some time at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. During 1992 and 1993 I studied for a doctoral degree in Political Science at the University of Natal but did not complete the degree. Between 1992 and 1998 I was a member of the International Institute of Strategic Studies on the recommendation of UK Ministry of Defence adviser, Mr Jim Wylie. C. Employment History At present I am a consultant to the ANC and the legal adviser to the National Disciplinary Committee. In 1985 commenced practise as an attorney and conveyancer for my own account. My practice focused primarily on human rights and administrative law, commercial law and conveyancing. My clientele included the United Democratic Front, members of the ANC, PAC and AZAPO, the SA Domestic Workers Union, the National Union of Mineworkers, Air India, New Republic Bank and the State Bank of India in SA. Between 1987 and 1990 I was the managing partner in the ?rm Naidoo, Nicholls and Carnbanis which comprised of 5 partners and 3 professional assistants. During that time I was also a partner in the ?rm Krish Naidoo, Brereton and Co. In Port Elizabeth which compromised of 2 partners and 4 professional assistants. The practise was focused entirely on human rights law. Both practices had a staff complement of about 30 people whom I managed. Between 1995 and 1997 I took up employment with SA's Armaments Corporation (Armscor) as Senior Manager of corporate communications. My responsibilities included liaison with the diplomatic corps and parliamentary defence committee, interacting with non governmental organizations and helping to restore the Armcor brand. In that period I participated in television and radio programmes relating to defence and wrote articles in the media and defence journals on issues of defence. Between 1998 and 2000 I was a director at Peregrine Treasury Solutions, a subsidiary of JSE-listed Company, Peregrine Holdings. My responsibilities included structuring ?nancial solutions to turn around the ?nancial position of municipalities, developing low cost and risk management solutions. In the period I worked with the majority of debt-strapped municipalities throughout the country under a project commissioned by the national ministry of Local Government. Between 2001 and 2003 was the Managing Director of Public Sector Consultants and developed risk and financial management strategies for municipalities. Between 2004 and 2007 was the General Manager and Acting CEO of Boxing South Africa. In that period I settled the Boxing Act and regulations in consultation with the Chief State Law Advisor. In 2008 resumed private practise in Bryanston and worked in association with Attorney Paul Ranamane. Between November 2012 and July 2013 was a consultant to Attorneys DLA Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr as business development attorney. Since April 2016 have been on the non-practising roll of attorneys. D. Public Interest Activities Reviewed cultural and academic boycott Amidst a bustling legal practice with of?ces in Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth, I was also active in the areas of culture and sport. In 1987 at a seminal conference in Amsterdam, I was part of a 4 person team (the other members included Thabo Mbeki (former President), Aziz Pahad (former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs) and Dr Pallo Jordan (former Minister of Arts and Culture) which reviewed the cultural and academic boycott of South Africa. thereby making it possible for progressive cultural workers and academics to garner international experience and quali?cation in preparation for a new democratic order. Founding member of NADEL was a Founding Member of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL) in 1987 together with the former Chief Justice Pius Langa, the late Dullah Omar (Minister of Justice), Krish Govender (State Attorney KZN) and Silas Nkanunu (practitioner in Port Elizabeth). Founding member of National Sports Congress Chaired the soccer unity talks to form the SA Football Association Part of team that wrote White Paper for the Department of Sports and Recreation Between 1986 and 1990 I devoted my spare time to the founding of a democratic sports movement in SA (National Sports Congress) in concert with Mluleki George (former Deputy Minister of Defence), Mthobi Tyamzashe (former head of corporate affairs at Vodacom) and Sam Ramsamy new member of lntemational Olympic Committee). I was the first general secretary of the National Sports Congress. Between 1987 and 1990 chaired the soccer unity talks which led to the formation of a single controlling body in soccer SA Football Association. In 2004 chaired a Ministerial committee which brought the disputing groups in netball together and oversaw the national election of Netball SA. In 2007 chaired a task team, together with Dr Ali Bacher, in cricket to resolve a breakdown of relations among administrators in Gauteng cricket. Member of the Transitional Executive Council Between 1993 and 1994 I was a member of the Transitional Executive Council (TEC), representing the African National Congress. The TEC effectively managed the country for 6 months and laid the basis for the ?rst democratic elections and government in April 1994. Non executive director of SABC in September 2013 was appointed as a non-executive director of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) for a period of 5 years. The SABC manages 4 television channels and 18 radio stations. I am a member of 3 SABC Board subcommittees risk, audit and social ethics committees and represent the SABC on the SABC Medical Scheme Trust. I resigned on 5 October 2016. was re?appointed to the SABC Interim Board in March 2017 Special Adviser to Minister of Tourism Between August 2015 and March 2017 I served as Special Adviser to the Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom. My areas of focus was the inclusion of Black entrepreneurs into the sector and to provide ad hoc legal advice to the Minister.
