California voters: country would be better off if President Trump left office early

California voter survey conducted by David Binder Research from August 18th to August 21St

 

A recent study of 601 registered California voters who voted in the November 2016 presidential election
reveals that most California voters believe the country would be better off if President Donald Trump
left office before the end of his term.

David Binder Research conducted 601 interviews of a representative sample of November 2016 voters
from August 18th to August 21?, 2017. All interviews were conducted by telephone including half by cell
phone and half by landline. The margin of error for the survey is and is higher for specific
subgroups shown below.

When asked which would be better for the country, 60% of California voters said it would be better for
the country if Donald Trump left office before the end of his term, while only 29% said the country
would be better off if Trump finishes his term and runs for reelection. Another 7% volunteered that
Trump should finish his term, but not run for reelection. 4% had no opinion on the question.

Democrats overwhelmingly believe the country would be better off if Trump left office early 
while only 11% say it would be better if he ran for reelection. Republicans, on the other hand, were
more divided, with 62% saying it would be better if he ran for reelection, but 20% saying it would be
better if he left early and another 12% volunteering that it would be better for him to finish term but not
run for reelection. One in three California Republicans do not want Trump to run for reelection.

Independents (registered as No Party Preference in California) are much closer to Democrats, with two
in three saying the country would be better off if he left office early. Only one in four
Independents say it would be better for the country if he stayed and ran for reelection.

Even examining Trump?s own base, only 75% of those who voted for him now believe it would be better
for the country if he runs for reelection. 10% of Trump?s voters say it would be better if he left office
early, and 12% say he should finish his term and not run for a second term.

Voters who chose Clinton last November, on the other hand, are overwhelmingly convinced that
he should leave office early. And 68% of voters who chose a candidate other than Clinton or Trump say
the country would be better off if he left office early.

Looking at California?s electorate by self-described ideology, more than 80% of progressives and liberals
say the country would be better off if Trump left early, plus a strong majority of moderates who
say the same. It is only conservatives who want Trump to finish his time in office, and even
conservatives are divided with 23% saying they want him to leave early and another 10% saying they
want him to finish up his term and leave.

The majority of those who live in urban areas suburban areas and even small towns 
say that they want Trump to leave office early. It is only rural voters who are more divided, and even
rural voters are more likely to want him to leave than to stay, with only one in three saying they
want him to finish his term and run for reelection.
