Dear Athletic Director Jurich:

The information provided by the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York in the
matter of United States v. Gatto is disturbing and unprecedented in its allegations. The allegations
contained in the complaint and affidavit of the Special Agent for the FBI, John Vourderis, insinuate a
scheme of fraud and malfeasance in the recruitment of student-athletes involving multiple members of
your men's basketball coaching staff, and Adidas, in violation of federal law and NCAA Division I Byliws.
In addition, as we've discussed, your recent negotiation of the terms of the updated sponsorship deal
with Adidas was conducted without timely or appropriate consultation with me or members of the
Board of Directors of the University of Louisville Athletics Association.

You are the Vice President for Athletics and an administrator of the University of Louisville. Your
contract requires you to perform your duties in an exemplary fashion, to demonstrate adherence to all
state, federal and local laws and ordinances, and NCAA, ACC, and University policies, and to represent
the University in the best possible light. it also requires you to supervise coaches to assure their
exemplary performance and adherence to law and all NCAA, ACC, and University policies. The level of
misconduct and criminal activity alleged to have been engaged in by your coaching staff, combined with
the negative local, regional, and national attention brought upon the University of Louisville by the
Athletics Department, is unacceptable. Accordingly, I am placing you on leave with pay from your
position, effective immediately, pending the next meeting of the University of Louisville Board of
Trustees. At that time the question of your continued employment with the University of Louisville will
be evaluated. You will be entitled to continue your health insurance during this leave.

During this leave, you are expected to cooperate with all University, NCAA, and federal law enforcement
investigations that in any way touch upon the activities of current or former members of the
Department of Athletics or your or the University's relationship with Adidas. This includes, without
limitation, compliance with the document preservation notice ha nd-delivered to your office on Tuesday.
