Estrich, do hereby declare as follows: 1. I am a partner in the law firm of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP, the 4 Robert Kingsley Professor of Law at the University of Southern California, and a member in good 5 standing of the California State Bar. I graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 6 1977. Following my graduation, I clerked for The Honorable J. Skelly Wright of the District of 7 Columbia Court of Appeals and The Honorable John Paul Stevens of the United States Supreme 8 Court. I was a Professor of Law at Harvard Law School from 1981 to 1990. 9 2. I was admitted to practice law in the State of California on October 3, 1986. My 10 state bar number is 124009. I was admitted to practice before the Central District of California in 11 1986. 12 3. On Saturday, August 4, 2012, I was approached by my law firm to argue this 13 motion due to the press of trial obligations among other members of the team. I immediately 14 prepared myself to make the argument. 15 4. At all times prior to my appearance and argument on August 7, 2012, I believed in 16 good faith that I was admitted to practice before the Northern District of California. The basis of 17 my belief was that when I moved to California in 1986 I joined a law firm and believed that the 18 law firm facilitated and assisted me in complying with the administrative requirements for my 19 admission to the District Courts in the state. In addition to the Central District of California, I am 20 admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the 21 United Stated Supreme Court. That law firm has since dissolved. 22 5. As a result of these circumstances, I did not confirm my membership to practice 23 before this Court. My omission was through inadvertence and oversight, and my conduct was not 24 willful. 25 6. Upon receipt of the Court's order dated August 8, 2012, I immediately applied for 26 and have been admitted to practice before the District Court of the Northern District of California, 27 and have filed an appearance in this case. I have not made other appearances before the Northern 28 District of California 02198.51855/4900068.1 Case No. 11-cv-01846-LHK (PSG) -2DECLARATION OF SUSAN R. I apologize 2 to the Court for my omission in not confirming my admission to practice in the Northern District 3 prior to my appearance and argument on August 7, 2012. 4 8. I respectfully request that the Court not hold these inadvertent omissions on my 5 part against the merits of my client's case, and further respectfully ask that the Court determine 6 this matter as concluded now that I have obtained admission to the bar of this Court and have filed 7 a notice of appearance pursuant to the Orders of the Court in his matter. 8 I declare under penalty of perjury that the forgoing is true and correct to the best of my 9 knowledge.
