Yes, and the county was represented by outside counsel. I if yes, who was that attorney? If no, why was that advice not sought? Mark Slockdale. I Which department (KCSU or Risk Management) paid for the following parts oer. - settlement: A) $100,000 lump sum payment to Risk Management $3,450.72 payment mvering_ health care premiums? Sheriff's Office c) 510,000 payment to law firm representing Sheriff's Office D) $68,729 back pay/benefits to Sheriff's Office I Why didn't Risk Management brief the King County Executive's Office about the settlement per Risk Management practices? The amount anticipated that Risk Management would pay toward this settlementwas $100,000. I Why didn't Risk Management or KCPAO or seek approval nfthe King County Executive for the settlement per ch 2.21.070? When resolving an employment claim, it is not unusual for a county agency to make payments in addition to the indemnity amount paid by Risk Management. Far example, an agency may pay the nuns tort components ofthe settlement (vacation cash out, wages, health care premiums, etc At the time ofthe settlement, Risk Management and the PAC believed the $10,000 payment to Mr attorney could be paid by the Sheriff's Office and not considered an indemnity payment. In hindsight, that was a mistake, and we should have sought the approval of the Executive. Thanks.
