September 2, 2017 Dear San Ysidro School District Community: The Board of Education has accepted the resignation of Superintendent Julio Fonseca effective Sep. 1, 2017. We will forever cherish his enthusiasm, charisma, knowledge, and unwavering support and love as a model for excellence for our children and in education. It is the District’s ultimate and most profound desire to bring stability and support to a community that has endured so much through the years. The Board is absolutely committed to promoting an instructional environment that is consistent for our students and our hard-working teachers. I know there is frustration as we walk this path of transition again, but this time we are doing it together, as one, arm in arm. We are resilient, we are strong, and through all these changes we will prevail, not for the good of the organization, but for the good and success of our children. Rest assured that classroom instruction will not be impacted. The Board has made is clear that my first priority must be that our schools remain safe spaces that provide our children a hopeful glimpse to a flourishing future. To every community member, my doors are open to you, I am here to serve you and respond to any and all questions that you may have. There are still so many projects that we need to get done, and we will get them done – together! To our Teachers, you truly are the bedrock of this school district. Without your support and hard work, we would not be able to accomplish the goals that we have set for our community, the district, and our students. Your excellence is an asset to this school district, and a fundamental tool of tomorrow’s leaders, organizers, and overall great human beings. To our Classified and support staff, you feed our children, you transport our children, you care for our children, you pay our bills, you prepare our payroll, you maintain our clean and secure campuses, you deliver our goods and supplies. You, often times, make the impossible possible, and for that I am forever in awe of your resilience and tolerance to our ever-changing demands. Principals, administrators, you are our warriors in our ever-changing battlefield; please know that I am with you through this journey. While some may see change as a challenge – we can also see opportunity. In that opportunity, we can deliver continued improvement and success. It is my promise to you that we will harness this transition to foster academic success and community. With much respect and appreciation, J. Arturo Sanchez-Macias Interim Superintendent
