The subsequent PITF investigation revealed that and his partner, DPD O?icer were investigating a citizen?s complaint of narcotics activity at 14928 S. Evers. That group ?ed on foot when stopped the DPD squad car and exited the squad car. then pursued the unknown subjects on foot while drove to cut o?f the group?s probable escape route. lost sight of the subjects when the group Split up and ran between the adjacent houses. As began checking the unlit gangways between houses he was holding his pistol at a low ready position. then saw an unknown subject run into the north gangway of 14923 S. Evers and gave chase. At this time his ?ashlight began to malfunction. When entered that unlit gangway in close pursuit of the unknown runner he was confronted by the dark silhouette of a person. announced his of?ce and ordered that person to stap. Instead of complying the person now known to have been LEE stepped toward reSponded by advancing to con?'ont LEE but tripped in the dark and his weapon discharged. LEE was struck by that accidental discharge. LEE was immediately tranSported to Christ HOSpital where he was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound. PITF interviewed several persons that could have knowledge of these events. Those persons included LEE, GREGORY BRECKENRIDGE, LAMONT THOMPSON, and PANDORA STEVENS. Only LEE, and THOMPSON actually saw the shooting. Their statements agreed in all details except in that LEE denied stepping toward a?er announced his office. This was contradicted by the statement of friend THOMPSON in which THOMPSON said LEE stepped past him after had announced his of?ce. All items of evidentiary value were processed according to policy.
