METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT Peter Newsham OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS Dustin Sternbeck Chief of Police Director NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Public Information Office: 202- 727-4383 October 25, 2017 Second Arrest Made in a Homicide Offense: 2200 Block of Martin Luther King Jr Avenue, Southeast (Washington, DC) - Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch announced that a second arrest has been made in a Homicide offense that occurred on Sunday, October 8, 2017, in the 2200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southeast. At approximately 3:50 am, Seventh District officers were flagged down in the 1300 block of Good Hope Road, Southeast, regarding a shooting at the listed location. While responding, officers located a shooting victim inside a vehicle. The victim was transported to an area hospital where all lifesaving efforts failed and the victim was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 25 year-old Omar Earl Rodgers, of Southeast, DC. On Friday, October 20, 2017, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, an adult male was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder While Armed.
