Spa Safe Checklist MB Health These Items are used on one client only, then thrown away: Emery boards $ 10 for 150 Semi Critical Items –Intermediate solution to be used Pumice Stone $10 for 40 These Items are cleaned and disinfected between each client: Nail clippers Foot paddles Wooden cuticle pushers $5 for 200 Slippers $6 For 12 (Paper ones are cheaper) Glass diamond nail file Credo Cutter Scrub brushes Wax application sticks $7 for 160 Nail buffers $14 for 100 $3 for 12 Pedicure razor/ credo blades $9 for 120 Pumice pads $8 for 40 Foam toe separators $12 for 120 Sanding bands $6 for 20 Foot bath Tweezers Nippers Metal nail drill bits Cuticle Remover Hand Bath Acrylic nail brush MB Health Spa Safe Checklist General                       Workers must be certified –as nail technician(certificate of qualification –under the Apprenticeship of Manitoba) and have knowledge of Infection Prevention and control (IPAC) All work areas are well lit, clean and organized Facility must have: sinks with hot and cold running water liquid soap single use paper towel to clean equipment and wash hands Facility must have adequate storage space for equipment and supplies Tools, work surfaces and equipment are in good repair (ex. no rust or cracks) Surfaces cleaned and disinfected after each client Easily cleanable tools, equipment and surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between each client (eg. Foot baths, Nippers) Proper solution and disinfection levels must be used on tools and equipment (eg. Non critical, Semi critical, -Low Level (LLD): quaternary ammonium & hydrogen peroxide, Intermediate Level (ILD): isopropyl alcohol, bleach & iodophors) For Lower & Intermediate disinfection –label must claim it contains at least Tuberculocidal (effective against mycobacterium) Disinfectants must be prepared fresh daily Have proper wiping cloths and disinfectant solution for wiping surfaces Have the operator demonstrate their cleaning & sanitizing methods for tools Single-use items must be discarded after each use of client (eg. Foam toe pads, Pumice rocks) Tool and supplies are stored in a clean and dry storage area (eg. Separated and in covered containers) Cream and lotions are used in a way that does not contaminate the original product (eg. used in pumps, no fingers in jars) Clean linens are to be used for each client or have single service paper towel that is discarded after each use Employees must wash hands before and after each client and practice proper hygiene Employees use and maintain instruments and equipment in a manner to prevent a health hazard from occurring Nail services are not to provide to clients with nail fungus/mould unless clients supply own instruments Methyl Methacrylate (MMA)(usually used for artificial nail )-(skin irritant?) not found/used in premise ( found in liquid or powder form) (look for on workstations in containers or class jars- also tub containers in back storage ( not labbled))- See separate paper Have a sharps container for pedicure blades Acrylic Brushes- Main cleaning/soaking solutions used – Monomer & Acetone MB Health Spa Safe Checklist Check Wax Rollers  Wax may be applied directly to cloth with roller to avoid contaminating the cartridge ( if wax in cartridge is being used dir directly on client then cartridge needs to be discarded carded between clients) Waxing- Application         Cream, lotion, wax or powder removed from containers with disposable tools or spatulas –not not re dipped and not stored in solution Single service articles are disposed after use ( Pre-sterilized needles for in grown hairs) Semi Critical items are cleaned and disinfected (tweezers) Wax should not be filtered and reused New disposable gloves should be used Washing of hands before waxing Patch testing recommended Paraffin is not reused and discarded after each client FOOTBATHS Foot baths must be cleaned and disenfected after each client along with the brushes used to scrub them Two types of foot baths 1. Re-circulating System-with pipes: remove screen screen,, clean and disinfect with intermediate level disinfection at the end of each day 2. Non-re-circulating system – without pipes: clean and disinfect with an intermediate level between each client Refer to Appendix 6 – Personal Service Guidelines - for Cleaning of foot baths
