Your Excellency:

I would like to offer belated congratulations on your appointment as
Canada?s Governor General.

I believe you are well qualified to serve in your new role, given your
commendable record of public service and impressive professional
accomplishments.

As you know, the Governor General is asked to carry out duties on behalf
of Canada?s head of state with diplomacy, tact and sensitivity to the
customs and beliefs of our diverse population.

In every circumstance, the Governor General is required to be respectful
of the people she serves.

Your Excellency, I am concerned recent comments you have made did not
meet the standard of conduct that comes with your position.

Specifically, I refer to your suggestion that it is simply risible some

Canadians would subscribe to a view of creation that is rooted in the
divine.

Many in Saskatchewan object to your comment.

Your Excellency, I want to assure you that you will be welcomed on your
first and subsequent visits to Saskatchewan.

But when you come to our province, I would encourage you to avoid
denigrating or mocking the many adherents of faiths that believe in a
Creator.

The motto of our province is Multis genitbus vires: From Many Peoples,
Strength.

For us, our motto is more than a creed; it is a never ending aspiration to
live up to its intent and spirit.

I would ask you, as our Governor General, to support us as we so
endeavour by respecting all of our peoples, including people of faith.
