Incident/Investigation Report Agency: Gilbert Police Department Case Number: 16-000003341 Notes/Narratives NARRATIVE SYNOPSIS: On 02/26/2016 between 0730 hours and 1600 hours person(s) unknown forced entry into the listed residence by prying the back arcadia door open. They did so after failing to gain access through the front door while the occupants were away from home. Multiple items were taken to include 6 ?rearms. NARRATIVE: On 02/26/2016 at 1600 hours I, Of?cer Brownell #4554, reSponded to the listed address reference the homeowners returning home to discover their house had been burglarized. I responded driving a fully marked patrol vehicle and wearing standard regulation uniform. I was wearing a department issued body camera. Upon arrival I Spoke with homeowners Daryl and Christina Hall. They advised they had both just got home from work and observed that their roll up garage door was partially open. In opening it further they discovered that items which had previously been inside where now discarded in the garage. They stated they looked in the house and discovered it had been ransacked and contacted PD. I cleared the residence with additional of?cers. No persons were found in the home. I spoke with Daryl and Christina who explained that they left their residence that morning at 0730 hours. They explained that their 3 sons had also been at school all day. They said they returned home at 1600 to ?nd the home in its present state. He said they returned to ?nd the garage door partially raised and that it had previously been closed all the way. We spoke while standing on the driveway and Daryl advised that a large machete knife which had been left by the entrance of the garage had previously been in his bedroom. He explained that a camou?aged Airsoft carrier had been in the family room on the sewing table and it was now observed on the ?oor of the garage. There is a large gun safe in the garage which was secured. Daryl explained that cases and items which had been stored on top of the gun safe were moved to the ?oor. I went through the residence and noted that the front door is a double door. Each door has a small glass pane that is approximately 1 foot tall and 6 inches wide. The glass panes are in the middle of the door. When facing the front door from the outside the glass pane on the east door was knocked inward still in its wooden frame. The unbroken glass pane was found on the ?oor of the front entry way. It appeared that every room in the house had been rummaged through and tampered in some fashion. The family room had its gaming system on the ?oor and movies and video games had been rummaged through. There was a pair of pants on the ?oor which had previously been on the sewing table. The of?ce desk had been gone though and cases containing archery bows had been moved but still contained the bows. The master bedroom door had been kicked open as Christina had explained that they had left it locked. I observed the damage to the door frame. Incident/Investigation Report Agency: Gilbert Police Department Case Number: 16-000003341 oteS/N arratives Daryl explained that there had been six ?rearms which had not been secured. He stated he had 4 shotguns which were left pr0pped against his dresser and that he kept a pistol in his dresser and his wife had a pistol in her dresser. I observed that all the drawers in the dressers, night stands, TV stand, and closets were open and their contents were strewn about the ?oor. They advised during their initial walk through with me that Christina?s jewelry and their ?rearms were taken. They expressed surprise that their laptops, tablets and other electronic items were not taken. Daryl advised that they did not have the serial numbers to many of the guns which were taken. He stated that some of the shotguns he had owned for years. He stated that some were purchased more recently and he would contact the gun shops associated with the purchase to obtain the serial numbers. I searched the residence for physical evidence to process. There was a heavy layer of dust on the furniture and prints were evident. No items were observed left behind by the burglars. There were no security cameras on surrounding residences and the victim?s house did not have an alarm system. Christina advised that when they initially peeked in the back sliding door was wide open. It was noted that the back door had pry mars as the metal by the arcadia door?s locking mechanism was bent. There are 3 small dogs in the house and one of the dogs appeared to have an injured front left paw as it appeared swollen and had some dried blood. There was also dog vomit and excrement as the intrusion appears to have upset the dogs. Daryl advised that their neighbor to their west had left her residence at 1130 hours and noticed the Hall?s garage door partially open at that time. This would suggest that the incident may have occured between 0730 and 1130 hours Daryl was given a copy of his victim?s rights. He advised that they would be compiling a comprehensive list of stolen items to turn in at a later time. CONCLUSION: Case status will be listed as inactive pending further suspect information. Incident/Investigation Report Agency: Gilbert Police Department Case Number: 16?000003341 Supplement Notes SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: This supplement is to clarify a grammatical error in which I had stated that, ?There was a heavy layer of dust on the furniture and prints were evident." It should state that "no" prints were evident. There was a heavy layer of dust on items and furniture throughout the residence. The dust allowed one to see that an item was contacted and manipulated however the layer of dust prevented direct contact and there was no visible latent prints. Items such as the bow cases which were moved from their original spot as well as items on top of the gun safe did not have printable surfaces. On 02/29/2016 I received an email from Christina Hall providing a comprehensive list of items stolen or damaged. She advised she was only able to locate the serial number for 1 of the 6 guns taken. She provided information for the stolen SIG Sauer P320 40 cal Semi Auto Coyote Tan purchased from Pistol Parlor 1 year ago $650.00 SN: 58A015183. That hand gun was entered into NCIC 691434. There is presently no pawn history on the entered hand gun. On 02/29/2016 I went to the listed neighborhood and again walked the street observing no visible security cameras on neighboring houses. I spoke with the neighbor who lives across the street from the Hall residence. He identified himself as Jerry Miller. Jerry advised he had spoken with Of?cer R. Grif?n #3261 on the date of the report and had advised Officer Griffin that he had not noticed anything unusual. He stated that since speaking with neighbors he had heard them speak of a silver colored Mercedes seen parked on the street that morning. Jerry stated that he had noticed a silver colored 4 door Mercedes parked on his side of the street just east of his driveway. He stated there was a woman sitting in the vehicle while it was running. Jerry stated the woman was a white female and appeared to be in her 20?s in age. He stated that when he went outside the woman drove off. He suspects that she circled the block as she had been noticed sitting in the car further down the street to the east by neighbors. He explained that the vehicle did not stand out to him at the time but given the burglary it was unusual. Jerry advised that he did not have security cameras on his house and was not aware of any neighbors who did. I had attempted to contact the Halls at their home but they were not there. I spoke with their eldest son brie?y. He advised that he was not aware of an video security with any of his neighbors. He did advise that his parents had been told about a silver Mercedes since their original report. The shotgun item (#486038 Mossberg Youth 20 Gauge) was found in connection with an armed robbery which occurred in Chandler. The shotgun barrel had been "sawed" off and the stock was modi?ed into a pistol grip. There were no clear charges for possession of stolen property at the time of this report. The suspects in the Chandler case had not admitted to possessing or stealing the shotgun. Detective Coons said the gun would be impounded as evidence for the duration of their investigation. I contacted the victim in this case, Christine Hall and advised her about the situation. I told her she would not likely be able to take possession of the gun again because it had been modi?ed to the point of being illegal to possess. I provided Christine with the Chandler report number (16-112949) and told her she could obtain a copy of the report for further information. The shotgun has been removed from NCIC and will be designated as recovered in this report. A copy of this report will be forwarded to Detective Coons.
