'4 21115-701574 REFUSED BY DA - OTHER 0912-0 HOMICIDE - OTHER REASON HOMICIDE - OTHER SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT CASE SYNOPSIS On December 2, 2015, at approximately 2:00 members of the Safe Streets Task Force Fugitive Unit went to the area of 3805 W. 26th Ave., on a ?igitive investigation regarding Phillip MUNOZ. Mr. MUNOZ was wanted on a felony warrant in Thornton for assault with a deadly weapon from a shooting incident and a felony warrant in Aurora for kidnapping, felony menacing and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. He was listed as Armed and Dangerous on these warrants. He has an extensive criminal history including arrests for weapons, aggravated assault, attempt murder, assault to a police of?cer, motor vehicle theft, kidnapping, narcotics, and burglary. 3805 W. 26th Ave., was an elder living facility where Steve MUNOZ, the father of Phillip MUNOZ was known to reside. Detectives from the Aurora Police Department's Fugitive Unit observed a party there that they believed to be Phillip Munoz and requested the Safe Streets Task Force's assistance. They responded to the location with members of the Denver Police Unit. was briefed on the fugitive and a visual perimeter around the building was set up. Members of the Aurora Fugitive Team were watching live surveillance video of the hallway outside the apartment of the father of the fugitive. strategically set up in the surrounding neighborhood to allow for an immediate response. At approximately 3:20 Mr. MUNOZ, was seen leaving his father?s apartment wearing a Denver Sheriff's Department uniform that included a gun on his hip. Mr. MUNOZ, his father and a female later identi?ed as Brittany left the building and to a silver colored Dodge Charger parked in the 2500 block of Newton St. Mr. MUN OZ got into the driver?s seat and began to pull away as the vehicles approached. vehicles attempted to place their vehicle into contact with Mr. MUNOZ but he was able ?ee into the 3700 block alley between W. 25th and 26th. Mr. MUNOZ was ?nally forced to a stop in the alley just east of Meade St. when he crashed into a residential garage at 2530 Meade Street. Mr. MUN father and Ms. TALMICH were taken into custody when they exited the vehicle but Mr. MUNOZ jumped back inside. The Technicians were able to see that Mr. MUNOZ was armed with a handgun. Less lethal 40mm projectiles and diversionary devices were then deployed. Mr. MUNOZ struck a natural gas meter with the front of the vehicle when he crashed and a ?re began to engulf the inside. Mr. MUNOZ then ?ed the vehicle out the passenger?s side and jumped a wooden fence into the backyard of 2530 Meade St. Techicians Bret TITUS and Jim BRADLEY pursued Mr. MUNOZ on foot from the southeast. Technician RUDDY ran North in the 2500 block of Meade to cutoff his escape to the North and West. Mr. MUNOZ stopped at the North side of the backyard, possibly as a result of seeing that Technician RUDDY had cut off his escape to the West. Mr. MUNOZ then raised his handgun towards the Of?cers. Technicians BRADLEY and TITUS ?red their weapons striking the suspect several times. During the shooting, Technician RUDDY was shot as well. Mr. MUNOZ was pronounced deceased at the scene and Technician RUDDY was trasnported to the hospital where he survived his injuries. For: M08019 Printed On: Sap-014017 (Fri.)
