METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT Peter Newsham OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS Dustin Sternbeck Chief of Police Director NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Public Information Office: 202- 727-4383 December 2, 2017 Arrest Made in a Homicide: 1700 Block of 16th Street, Southeast (Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced an arrest has been made in a fatal shooting that occurred inside of a residence in the 1700 Block of 16th Street, Southeast, on Saturday, December 2, 2017. At approximately 8:13 am, members of the Sixth District responded to a residence, at the listed location, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival on the scene, members located an adult female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The decedent remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The decedent has been identified as 55-year-old Valerie Regina Coleman, of Southeast, DC.
