Kettering City School District BUSINESS SERVICES 3750 Far Hills Avenue Kettering, OH 45429 Ph. 499-1418 Fax (937) 499-1465 L. SCOTT KENNETH A. LACKEY Superintendent Director of Business Services November 30, 2017 To: All Transportation Employees From: Ken Lackey, Director of Business Services RE: Recent Media Coverage I would like everyone to know that I feel the recent media coverage of the suspensions of Steve Rector and Sue Wilson was unfortunate and was blown out of proportion. I would like to clarify the situation. Steve and Sue were disciplined for not properly doing pre-trip inspections. Steve was doing the pre-trip inspections for Sue without a Supervisor?s approval. Steve was also disciplined for being on Sue?s bus during the time buses were loading, instead of supervising students getting on his bus. Also, there was some personal interaction between Steve and Sue that should not take place in front of students. However, this interaction was not anywhere near the level that the media made it out to be, or what someone might imagine occurred while reading or watching the news coverage. The term ?fondling? in the story was ta ken from the pre-disciplinary letters that went out with my signature. I regret the use of that term, because I think it helped fuel a much larger media story than it should have been. I welcome Steve and Sue back to work on Monday December 4. Both are good employees and I believe them to be good people. We all make mistakes. This incident is a good reminder for all of us. We are public employees and our personnel files are open and available for anyone and everyone who would like to see them. When we make mistakes, they sometimes end up on Board Agendas and become very public. While we would like to keep these stories out of the news, we have very little control over that happening. I thank everyone for the work you do every day for our students. Serving The Children Of Kettering And Moraine
