Media Statement December 6, 2017 Timberlawn Behavioral Health System refutes Dallas Morning News’ assertion that Timberlawn is allowing unsafe conditions for its patients. Our professional, dedicated staff at Timberlawn Behavioral Health System strives to provide our patients with the best possible care and treatment in a safe environment. The relationship between Timberlawn and our patients is a sacred trust built on the care we offer during some of the most difficult periods in their lives. Ensuring appropriate and safe patient behavior at all times is one of the central challenges for all behavioral health professionals. Timberlawn staff aim to ensure that any improper behaviors are redirected. However, in the rare event that an incident occurs rising to the level of reporting to the police or state, we comply with that obligation. The March 2017 incidents you have identified were reported to the state and to police. We are in compliance with all aspects of the agreed order. Timberlawn is currently operating three units in one newly renovated building; the other buildings including Burkett 1 are closed for renovation at this time. The units are co-ed with same-gender roommates, which is industry standard. The management and staff of Timberlawn are fully committed to our mission of providing high quality treatment and care to patients with special, and sometimes complex, mental health needs.
