Jason Tackett. At approximately 3:34 AM on 1?14-2018, an officer was following a vehicle that he believed to possibly be stolen. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle at Browns Station Way and Randolph Ave. Officers pursued the vehicle into Louisville where it came to a stop in an alleyway in the Portland - area. Two suspects were occupying the vehicle, the driver fled the scene and the passenger stayed with the vehicle. After a foot pursuit Maurice Bard was taken into custody. Mr. Bard attempted a second time to flee on foot. After being detained a second time the attached video shows Sgt. Jason Tackett striking the suspect. The passenger who cooperated at the scene was found to have no involvement in the pUrsuit and was released without incident. The Clarksville Police Department will make a complete attempt to be as transparent as possible without jeopardizing the integrity of any investigation. in this effort we have attached a video of the incident from the arresting officer's body camera. The Clarksville Police Department will not tolerate any form of excessive force. We have initiated an internal investigation into these actions and, if the charges are sustained, the officer will be subject to discipline or termination. The Clarksville Police internal affairs division has been in contact with Louisville Metro police department regarding this incident. Louisville Metro will assist us in any way possible to ensure a thorough investigation takes place as we continue to have a good working relationship with LMPD. We are making every effort to provide all information that we have keeping in mind the integrity of the investigation. 1 would ask that the public understand that we will continue to make every effort to keep?the good citizens of our community safe while holding our officers to the highest standards.
