From: Robert Wright Date: February 3, 2018 at 3:25:24 PM PST To: "August, J.W (Contractor-NBCUniversal)" Subject: [EXTERNAL] RE: Freedom Fighters Foundation/ NBC Story Dear Mr. August, Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your questions. This firm represents the Freedom Fighters Foundation, a California non-profit corporation (the “Foundation”). We do not represent individual members of the Foundation. My contact at the Foundation is a plainclothes law enforcement officer who for obvious reasons cannot appear on camera and would prefer to keep his identity private for his safety and the safety of his colleagues and family. The Foundation is a non-profit civil liberties organization dedicated to the core principles of constitutionally limited government, conservative family values, free markets and individual liberty. The Foundation has a private target shooting area on its property. It does not operate a public or commercial shooting range. No San Diego County permit is required. As reflected in the attached links, the Foundation’s property is located in an area of the County where shooting is legal and allowed, subject, of course, to compliance with all County safety regulations applicable to shooting. See https://gis-public.co.sandiego.ca.us/arcgis/rest/services/SDSO/County_of_SanDiego_shooting_regulations/MapServer And http://sdcounty.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=567b3a904d6a4bfa96d25bd37f4fd739 Section 33.101.5 of the County Code of Regulatory Ordinances regulates shooting during high fire hazard periods. The Foundation shares the concerns of everyone about fire hazards and makes sure that its target shooting area is cleared of brush and any other flammable materials. It also complies with the other requirements of Section 33.101.5(b)(2). Shooting can therefore occur in compliance with all “Red Flag Regulations. The Foundation maintains a good relationship with its neighbors in the surrounding communities and had not received a single complaint until recently. The organization complies with all applicable County shooting ordinances to insure the safety and security of its neighbors, friends, family, and supporters. Shooting occurs far beyond the minimum safe distance provided in the County regulatory ordinance, Sec. 33.101(b) (150 yards from an occupied house), and creates no noise problems. No training occurs on the private target shooting area, and no one can shoot unless invited by the Foundation to do so. There is no charge for use of the target shooting area. Occasionally, people who work for federal and state law enforcement agencies have used the target shooting area, if invited to do so. As mentioned above, the Foundation has a good relationship with its neighbors, including the Serbian Church located on adjacent property. The Foundation and the church are separate entities. Please verify all information before broadcasting anything as fact about the Foundation. I will be monitoring the broadcast for the Foundation.
