Subject: Announcement from the Chairman

All,

I have decided to leave the Board to pursue other interests. After
much reflection, I have concluded that the outstanding staff here should
have new leadership. Vice Chairman Bruce Hamilton will serve as
Chairman; he has the skills and experience to provide that leadership.

I expect the President and the Congress to continue this agency’s
mission of providing independent oversight of the Department of Energy’s
defense nuclear complex. I respect that judgment, and have no doubt that
each of you will continue to execute that mission with the highest standards
of professionalism, dedication, and technical competence. Our fine staff
deserves to be led by an executive the staff believes in, and Mr. Hamilton
will be that executive.

This is effectively my two-week notice. My last official day of service
will be February 2, 2018. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of
leading this outstanding staff.
